Heading to MACEDONIA 🇲🇰 from ALBANIA to explore LAKE OHRID with an AMAZING APARTMENT!!!

I have to admit, Lake Ohrid wasn't my idea. No, I actually saw it in another travel vlog and decided that it would be a good place to add to our itinerary, and I was right!

Once we decided to leave Albania, we had two options--we could either take a bus back to Tirana, and then another bus to Skopje in Macedonia, and a third bus to Ohrid...OR we could get a car service directly to Ohrid from Berat. Having had my fill of the Albanian Bus experience, we reserved a car, and met our driver Dimitar at 9am.

Dimitar handled the simple border crossing for us, but warned us that the Macedonian government mandates the use of masks for everyone, which was quite different from the experience we had in Albania!

Once we got to Ohrid, we had to walk toward the shore from the entrance of the old city to our AirBNB which we suspected would have an amazing view--and it surely did not disappoint! At 3:30 in the video, you will see what I mean!

Lake Ohrid is the deepest, and one of the oldest lakes in the Balkans, and situated is in between Eastern Albania and Macedonia. The Macedonian side was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

Once we settled into the apartment, we decided to explore St. John's Monastery and then hike to Samuel's Fortress which is up the hill past the Monastery. After a bit of a rest outside the Fortress we chose to head to the City Center for lunch and some shopping for some traditional Pearls from Lake Ohrid, before heading back to the apartment to rest and have some warmed up leftovers for dinner.

When we decided to take a month to travel, there were few options for Americans due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Macedonia was one of those options, and as my research continued, I stumbled upon Lake Ohrid on nearly every list of places to see in Macedonia as a highlight of the country.
