Concert halls and live event spaces across America are dancing on their stages today, as the new, $900 billion stimulus package contains $15 billion in disaster relief funds to keep these vital arts venues alive as we head into 2021.

With restrictions on large gatherings and no control on that thing out there, arts and live event spaces have been hit harder than most industries during this crazy year.

Dayna Frank, the owner of First Avenue, a storied music club in Minneapolis, was thrilled with the news: “This is what our industry needs to make it through. Last night was the first time I have smiled in probably nine months.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also praised the news, stating: “The nonprofit and arts world is very important to the economies of cities. People forget that.”

This is amazing news for theaters and live even spaces across America, and I can’t wait to go to a show, play or musical very soon.

Meanwhile, the new disaster relief bill will contain another round of stimulus checks, but the amount offered and the Americans eligible differ from the direct payments provided in the CARES Act.

As y’all remember, the CARES Act offered $1,200 stimulus checks to all American adults earning less than $75,000 annually, and $500 for dependents under the age of 17.

This new disaster relief package will offer Americans $600 stimulus checks to everyone earning less than $75,000, and $600 for dependents under the age of 17.

Unfortunately, people earning above $75,000 a year will see phased out benefits, with $5 taken off the stimulus checks for every $100 over $75K, making the threshold for any funds $87,000 annual earnings.

While I’d love to see more $1,200 stimulus checks, this new proposal at least offers some financial support as we head into the holidays and out of this bizarre 2020.

Finally, Congress voted yesterday and approved the new $900 billion stimulus package, as well as their own government funding bill for $1.4 trillion.

According to CNBC: “The House approved the package in a 359-53 vote. The Senate then passed it by a 92-6 margin. The six GOP senators who voted against the bill were Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Rick Scott, Mike Lee and Ron Johnson.”

Mitch McConnell called the bill a: “historic rescue package” and explained that Americans across the country have: “waited long enough.”

Nancy Pelosi also said: “We advance this bill today as a first step. ... We are ready for the next step.”

The new stimulus proposal is now just one signature away from becoming law, and President Trump is due to sign the disaster relief bill into law at any moment in the next few days.

I’m so happy that we are finally getting some much needed disaster relief funds, which will hopefully offer some financial stability as we head into the new year.
