Outlook ‘brighter’ for interest rates if inflation hits Treasury forecast

Sky News Business Reporter Edward Boyd says the outlook is “a lot brighter” for interest rates if inflation hits the target band of two to three per cent by Christmas.

Tuesday's Federal Budget is the first of three major economic news items to be released this week.

Later this week, the quarterly wage growth numbers will be released followed by the April unemployment report.

“In other words, the RBA is probably more likely to start cutting rates this year as opposed to the first few months of 2025,” Mr Boyd said.
