Man Impaled in Bizarre Crash | Lakeside

03.09.2021 | 8:19 AM | LAKESIDE – The male victim was leaving the 7/11 store on his bicycle. There was an EDCO trash truck parked in the parking area and the male rode his bike past it and into the path of a construction truck that was driving into the parking area.

Somehow, the victim became impaled by a large metal hook on the front of the truck’s equipment rack. The hook went into the victim’s neck next to his jugular vein. Firefighters had to wait for permission from a medical doctor before they could remove him from the hook.

The man was impaled for approx 25 minutes before the firefighters were able to lift him off of the hook. The victim was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was distraught, saying over and over, "I could have killed him", even though it was not his fault.
