As a project manager, you need to understand the five-step model of people's need and desires. If you know the team needs well -

You can use your soft and leadership skills to motivate them towards project success and goal.

Abraham Maslow created this hierarchy of needs model. He says people need physical needs fulfilled first. The example of such needs are food, and job to earn money.

Once these are getting met, they think about safety needs. Here, they try to make sure that whatever needs are getting fulfilled, it safe and available for future also.

Once a person feels safe, his/, her desires go up - he/she love to socialize people. At this stage, they are concerned about their social interaction

Once all these desires getting met, they want to move towards esteem and self-fulfillment.

If a project manager knows their stage of the desire of a team member, he can use his leadership skills to motivate him/her. Because the awareness of the person desires will help him/her to design an appropriate strategy.
