Washington Today (1-12-24): Pres. Biden says Houthi strikes 'delivered a message to Iran'

United States and United Kingdom launch airstrikes against Houthi targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, after President Joe Biden and allied nations warned the militant groups backed by Iran of consequences of their attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.

We will hear from President Biden, White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Lt Gen. Douglas Sims, Director of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon and British Prime minister Rishi Sunak.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) says he plans to stay with the federal government spending agreement he reached with Democrats. Thursday, after meeting with conservative House Republicans, he had suggested he may look for additional spending cuts.

President Biden travels to the Allentown, PA area to meet with small business owners and employees. The Biden Administration also announces additional steps on student loan debt relief.

The House passes a bill to block a new regulation that would make it easier for contract and franchise workers to unionize.
