Washington Today (3-8-24): President Biden campaigns in Pennsylvania after State of the Union speech

President Joe Biden campaigns in the Philadelphia area the day after his State of the Union address to promote the themes and proposals of his speech on the economy, reproductive rights, foreign affairs and more.

Republican National Committee elects new leadership at the meeting in Houston, Texas, supported by likely presidential nominee – and former president – Donald Trump. Michael Whatley becomes chair and Lara Trump, Donald Trump daughter in law, is co-chair. The two talk about getting out the vote, securing the integrity of the ballot, and raising money.

Senate has until midnight to pass a $467 billion six-bill spending package, or their will be a partial government shutdown. The bill funds the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Commerce, Housing & Urban Development and Agriculture.

House passes a bill the Republican sponsors say will increase investor capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Pentagon Press Secretary talks about president Biden's plan to build a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza to get more humanitarian aid quickly to the Palestinians suffering the war between Israel & Hamas.

Pentagon also releases a report on UAP's – Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena – concluding the government is not hiding alien spaceships.

And with Daylight Saving Time here again, some Senators are still pushing their bill to end the twice-a-year clock switching.
