2016 Richland Rotary Entrepreneurial Awards

Congratulations to all the 2016 nominees and Sammy Award winner, and thank you to the people
at the Port of Benton, PNNL, Tri-Cites Chamber of Commerce and TRIDEC for all of the work
putting this event together.

Sam Volpentest presented the 2016 Sammy Award to Paul Carlisle, from Elevate. Paul has been
working with WSU for many years and has had a profound impact on business development
through its Startup Weekend and support of entrepreneurship in the Tri-Cities. Paul thanked the
many people with whom he has been associated with for years and have made his work successful.

Eleven nominations were received from four organizations, and all nominees were selected for recognition:

Elite Chiropractic and Massage: Started just 4 years ago in Kennewick, Drs. Marshall Mathews & Marc
Brown have doubled their staff and grown their business in meeting the unique needs of their patients,
alleviating pain and tension, and promoting better health.

WAVE7: David McKay started a software and services firm, working remotely with manufacturing,
transportation and retail businesses, and going from 1 employee to 10, with expected growth of
another 5-10 in the coming year.

Wildland: Ty Mulholland is the founder of Wildland that is a software agency, managing web, database
and software applications for clients with newly formed businesses to larger companies like Microsoft,
Hyundai and Lamb Weston, and growing their staff from 2 to 9 employees.

Percheron Power: Jerry Staalsund started Percheron Power to harness existing renewable energy
resources, with a special focus on hydropower, including a turbine used in Europe that is fish-friendly,
and important here in the Northwest with our fish resources.

Champion Technology Company: Ryan Hohimer came from PNNL and two years ago licensed
technology that become the start-up of CTC. It is rooted in artificial intelligence, and recently focused
in cyber security.

JMK Tech: Justin Kasparek started JMK Tech in 2012, empowering clients with confidence in their
use of technology, to give them support of their entrepreneurial interests, and growing from to 5
employees and nearly 100 clients.

Iron Mountain Construction Management, LLC: Meghan Chalk brought her project management
experience to this new company, which puts technically qualified people and experts with
specialized knowledge with their clients, so that complex work and staff get the job done right for
their client businesses.

I-3 Global: Kris Lapp and his company bring integrated project services here and internationally,
and have also been developing areas of community that historically have not had a lot of attention.

Pacific Crest Planning: Todd Halterman, who has worked in the financial services industry for past
20 years, started Pacific Crest Planning to offer an comprehensive financial planning service for
clients rather than just working with a lawyer, or accountant or stockbroker, and sees himself in the
people business with an emphasis on education.

That Place Pub and Eatery: After a trip to a local pub in 2014, Roger and Teresa Schott decided to
open a pub of their own, and in a short time identified a commercial property in North Richland and
opened That Place Pub and Eatery in October 2014, the first in the area to offer dinner, beer and wine,
attracting many return customers from the nearby businesses for a great customer experience.

Solar Spirits: Formed at WSU’s Startup Weekend in 2013, this business has focused on craft distilling,
utilizing renewable solar energy to reduce environmental impact, and currently making Vodka and
Gin, with more products on the way.
