When your ex doesn't initiate contact with you, it can be concerning. Does it mean that they don't care about you at all?

But what if your ex doesn't initiate contact but responds? Where are they then?

First of all, you want to look at the emotional context of why your ex won't initiate contact.

Are they afraid of sending the wrong message?

Are they still stuck on the pain and hurt from the past?

Could there be something else going on?

These are all important things to think about.

Even if you're doing something like No Contact, it doesn't mean that your ex is going to contact you. Especially if there are complex emotions in the way that are keeping them from texting your or calling you.

So what you want to do is to be okay initiating contact yourself. This will allow the two of you to rebuild some sort of emotional connection and normalize your interactions so that your ex no longer fears that things may be awkward or strained between the two of you .

Second of all, you want to avoid the dangerous game of keeping score. It doesn't matter who is initiating contact so long as the emotional connection is getting stronger and stronger between the two fo you.

And finally, the most important thing that you can focus on is the emotional connection. If the connection is getting stronger, then it doesn't matter who is taking the lead. Often, when the connection gets strong enough, there will be a shift and you'll notice your ex starting to initiate more contact with you again.
