If you want to know what to do with an emotionally unavailable man, then you're in the right place.

The first thing you want to do, is to have standards for yourself so that you don't get lost in some sort of quasi-half relationship that you don't really want to be in in the first place.

Boundaries can be difficult for a lot of people to enforce, but they are absolutely essential if you don't want to reinforce the emotionally unavailable behavior, such as hookups.

Next, you need to know whether or not this is a relationship you really want to be in or not.

Notice, I did not ask you if you love him or not, but whether or not you love the current dynamic or not.

If do not love the current dynamic, you can tell him about it and if he is unable or unwilling to change things, the best thing that you can do is to remove yourself from the dynamic.

After all, this is about getting real with reality, not about idealizing potential or fantasies.

Now, if you do something like this, such as, disengaging from a relationship, then understand that this may cause him to start pursuing you since he may be afraid of losing you.

This is the time when your boundaries are very important.

You're going to need to see real and tangible progress in him meeting your standards if you are going to stay in that relationship or dating situation.

If he is unable or unwilling to meet your standards, it's important that you hold strong and do not cave in.

Of course you don't want to punish him, just simply hold your standards. There's nothing wrong with him asking for what he wants.
