Nuclear data: on Earth and in the cosmos | Robin Smith | TEDxAberystwyth
Dr Robin Smith talks about the biggest nuclear reactor in our solar system (the Sun!) and those on earth, our own mini-stars. He draws attention to how little we understand about nuclear science, which applies to both nuclear power and also at a more cosmic level. Dr Robin Smith is a Lecturer in Physics at Sheffield Hallam University and holds an honorary Assistant Research Professor post at the University of Connecticut. Robin specialises in experimental measurements of nuclear reactions.
Robin's experimental research in nuclear astrophysics is funded by the US Department of Energy and focuses on helium burning. His work on nuclear reactors is funded by the UK National Nuclear Laboratory’s Advanced Nuclear Fuel Cycle Research Programme and focusses on novel experimental approaches to nuclear data measurements.
