UN General Assembly adopting Gaza resolution means the world is ‘watching very closely’

The UN General Assembly adopting the Gaza resolution for an immediate and sustained ‘humanitarian truce’ means the world will be watching Israel “very closely”, according to ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies’ Ian Parmeter.

On October 7 Israel declared war on Hamas after the Palestinian terrorist group launched thousands of rockets as far north as Tel Aviv.

“The world will be watching very closely what happens as this ground invasion ramps up,” he told Sky News Australia.

“I think in practise Israeli decisionmakers will be aware that they have a limited window of opportunity in which to achieve their objectives before international opinion could very well make it difficult for them to continue.

“So we’ll just have to watch and see as the next few days how that develops.”
