Egyptian still-life
Summer in Egypt is hot: really hot, often over 50 degrees C. So in 2007 I confined myself to the studio with the a/c turned on and created still-life paintings of local objects and fine specimens of Islamic metalwork from a local antique shop. One small exception was "Offering to Maatkare", which depicts fresh-cut lotus blossoms left as an offering in Hatshepsut's red chapel, and another the terracotta jar with onions which was painted the following year in the house I was building.
