STORYLINE:

After discussing thorny bilateral issues with his Indian host, Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf his wife Sehba toured the Taj Mahal on Sunday, during a break of the summit.

The 17th-century monument is seen as the embodiment of Hindu and Muslim cultural heritage.

The Musharrafs posed for photographs as they entered the the Taj Mahal - one of the man-made wonders of the world.

The monument was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died giving birth to their 14th child.

Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in the 17th Century, at the height of the Mogul empire and Muslim rule over the subcontinent.

Entry for tourists was halted five hours before the Pakistani dignitaries arrived at the monument as part of a massive security operation in the city of Agra, a hundred and-80 kilometers (110 miles) southeast of New Delhi.

The Musharrafs couldn't experience all the splendor of the Taj Mahal, as the sky was overcast and its white marble undergoing a face lift.

Parts of the monument were covered with clay packs for removing stains of yellow dust accumulated over the years, according to officials of the Archaeological Survey of India.

To facilitate viewing for the Musharrafs, experts removed cleaning equipment from inside the monument.
