4. SOUNDBITE: (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"The first I heard of this is when I read it in the newspaper today. You know, I was, I guess I was taken aback by the harshness of the words. All I can tell you is that shortly after 9/11, (then US) Secretary (of State) Colin Powell came in and said 'President Musharraf understands the stakes and he wants to join and help root out an enemy that has come and killed three thousand of our citizens'."
5. Zoom out of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice listening
6. SOUNDBITE (English) General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President:
"This deal is not at all with the Taliban, as I said, this is against the Taliban, actually. This deal is with the tribal elders of north Waziristan agency."
7. Journalists
8. SOUNDBITE (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"When the president looks me in the eye and says the tribal deal is intended to reject the Talibanisation of the people and that there won't be a Taliban and there won't be al-Qaida, I believe him. This is a person with whom I've now had close working relationships for five and a half years. And when he says if we find - or when we find - Osama bin Laden, he will be brought to justice, I believe him. And we'll let the tactics speak for themselves after it happens. We're on the hunt together. It's in the president's interest that al-Qaida be brought to justice. And it's in our interest. And we collaborate and we strategise and we talk a lot about how best to do this. And that's what we've continually discussed."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President:
"As the president said, we are in the hunt together against these people. Now why are we bothering the semantics or the tactics of how to deal with this situation? We'll deal with it. We are in the hunt together."
11. Journalists
12. SOUNDBITE (English) General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President:
"We have, ladies and gentlemen, here we have ... the basis of a relationship is trust and confidence. And if we don't have that trust and confidence in each other and we think that we are bluffing each other, I don't think that's a good way of moving forward."

STORYLINE
US President George W. Bush said on Friday he was "taken aback" by a report of a purported US threat to bomb Pakistan "back to the Stone Age" if it did not assist in the so-called "war on terror" after the September 11th attacks.
According to Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf, the threat was made by the then US deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage to Pakistan's intelligence director.
In an interview to air on Sunday on American channel CBS's programme "60 Minutes", Musharraf said that after 9/11, Armitage said the US would bomb his country if Musharraf didn't switch his support from Afghanistan's pro-al-Qaida Taliban regime to the American-led "war on terror".
Armitage has disputed the language attributed to him but did not deny the message was a strong one.
Asked about the report, Bush said, "The first I heard of this is when I read it in the newspaper. I guess I was taken aback by the harshness of the words."
For his part, Musharraf declined to comment and cited a contract agreement with a publisher on an upcoming book.
However, he told CBS the Stone Age warning was a very rude remark.
Musharraf talked about a peace treaty between his government and tribes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, insisting it is not meant to support the Taliban.
But Both Bush and Musharraf shrugged off such links.
