Here I present an album of photographs of the delightful Volga River town of Plyos.

The original settlement was founded in the 12th century. Later fortified, the settlement was destroyed in 1238 by the Mongol Hordes.
Vasily I, Grand Prince of Moscow re-established the settlement in 1410. Plyos was granted town status in 1925.
Th great appeal of Plyos is that it retains a tranquil air with many wooden houses and hilly streets winding down to the Volga waterfront. The town's main claim to fame and the reason why tourist boats stop here, is that it became a retreat for the great Russian landscape artist Isaac Levitan, who found inspiration here in the summers of 1888 - 1890. His house is preserved as a museum.....
