A military observer pilot is a rank given to officers and lower ranks after graduating from the military school of observer pilots or for military merit.

The training of observers was carried out in aeronautical schools and parks, and then, with the advent of aviation schools, observer pilots began to be trained at the Sevastopol Military School of Sea Pilots, Gatchina Aviation Schools and Petrograd Aero Club. At the end of 1915, the question arose about observer pilots who were familiar with aerial photography, who had an artillery education and were able to correct artillery fire, conduct bombing and aerial combat. The Military Council adopted the decision to form a specialized military school for observer pilots (VSLN) on December 24, 1915, and it opened on January 3, 1916 in Kiev. The school was designed to train 50 officers for six months.....
