Making a Porsche 917 Style Shift Ball

I've always wanted to make a Porsche 917 style shift ball. This layered wooden ball is an iconic 1960's style shift ball. It's 55 - 58 mm in diameter and with the stainless base, has good weight. Wooden shifters are a style element that I like. It's got a 1960's European flair about it that I believe will match the "feel" I'm looking for in this build.
