Baby Duck - One Day Old

Unlike other birds in nature, ducks are born on the ground and therefore have to be ready to move, almost as soon as they are born in order to avoid predators.

As a result ducks are born almost fully developed and ready to eat drink and run on their own.

See this baby duck ready to go, eating, drinking, and walking at only one day old.

Ducks are part of our homesteading strategy in the Secret Garden of Survival, since they provide pest control, fertilizer, and protein (eggs and meat) for our farm.
