Soyuz TMA-09 Launch Video Footage By Astronaut Abby ㅣThrowback Thursday

#ThrowBackThursday personal video of the Soyuz TMA-09 launch in Baikonur, Kazakhstan from May 29, 2013. I was fortunate enough to attend the Soyuz Launch TMA-09 in Baikonur, Kazakhstan as a guest of my mentor astronaut Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency! This was Luca’s first time launching into space.

I am excited to share my personal video of this launch. It was amazing to stand less than one mile from the launch pad in the desert on a clear night to watch this launch. Words cannot describe what it is like to watch someone you know launch into space.

On May 29, 2013, astronauts Luca Parmitano, Karen Nyberg and Fyodor Yurchikhin launched to the International Space Station to join the crew as Expedition 36 and Expedition 37 for six months.
