Malakkappara or Malakhappara is a small hill station and tourist destination, being a border place in the Thrissur district, state of Kerala, India. This is a lesser developed area in Kerala.
The area consists of the tea estate owned by Tata Tea, forest area of Kerala Forest Department belonging to both Vazhachal Forest Division and Malayattur Forest Division. Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of Malakkappara area. There is 86 km distance from Chalakudy along the State Highway 21 via Thumboormuzhi, Athirappilly, Vazhachal, Sholayar etc. Malakkappara is 89 km distant from Pollachi via Attakatti, Valparai, Solaiyar Dam etc. Tamil Nadu is the border state of Malakkappara. The famous Sholayar Dam is situated just 5 km away from Malakkappara, on the way to Valparai.
Valparai is a Taluk and hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (earlier known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park and prior to that as Anaimalai Wildlife Sanctuary). It is located 4,500 feet (1,400 m) above sea level on the Anaimalai Hills range of the Western Ghats. The foothill starts exactly from Monkey Falls which is at a distance of 38 kilometres (24 mi) to Valparai. The route to Valparai from the foothills consists of 40 hairpin bends. The Kerala state border town of Malakkappara is at a distance of 26 miles from Valparai. While major portions of the land are owned by private tea companies, large forest areas continue to be out of bounds.
Valparai is at a distance of 64 kilometres (40 mi) from Pollachi; 80 kilometres ( from Udumalaipettai; 145 kilometres from Tiruppur; 154 kilometres from Munnar; 107 kilometres from Chalakudy; 129 kilometres from Nelliampathi; 110 kilometres from Palakkad; 153 kilometres from Thrissur. The road from Pollachi to Valparai has 40 hairpin bends. It takes about 2 hours to reach Valparai from Pollachi on State Highway 78. TNSTC operates buses from Valparai to Pollachi, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Udumalaipettai and Palani. Valparai is connected to Athirappilly Falls by road and is 107 km from Valparai to Chalakudi.

The Aliyar Dam was constructed during 1959-1969 across the Aliyar river, mainly for irrigation purposes. Aliyar Dam was inaugurated on 2nd october , 1962 ( Gandhi Jayanti day) by then Prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, K Kamaraj, the CM of TN state presided over the function. The project was commissioned in September 2002 to generate Hydro Electric Power.
