Taiwan high speed rail launches QR code tickets

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) introduced new QR code tickets on Wednesday to enhance travel convenience, planning to replace magnetic strip tickets by 2026. The redesigned tickets are larger, with clear travel details and QR codes enabling faster gate access. Currently available at Nangang, Banqiao, and Chiayi stations, they will expand to others like Zuoying and Tainan by Jan. 8. The upgrade, which included replacing ticketing equipment, cuts energy consumption by 98%. THSRC also encouraged the use of its T Express app for environmentally friendly digital tickets, which rose in sales from 21.6 million in 2022 to 28.11 million in 2023.
