Chicken Of The Woods Mushroom - Identification, Facts and Tasty Sandwich

At long last It's mid summer in Scotland and today we are on a forest hunt to find the amazing Chicken of the woods mushroom! After finding two specimens I discuss where to find it, it's edibility, features, medicinal and other fun facts. I then harvest some of Chicken of the Woods from the Oak tree and take it back to make a delicious sourdough chicken sandwich. We take the sandwich to the nearby loch and are then treated to an amazing Chicken of the woods coloured sunset to top off the experience.

If its your first time harvesting this mushroom to eat, make sure you only try a well cooked small amount to check your body gets on with it. The chicken of the woods does not agree with everyone and can cause things like gastric upset, swollen lips and even dizziness! If your unsure about identification try and find a local group or expert to consult. I forgot to say, stay away from Chicken of the Woods growing on Yew trees! Warning! Mushroom foraging for eating can be very dangerous if you get it wrong.
