Friendly Canada Goose Talking to Me (07-21-2014)

The talking one is Little Ice-Cream (named after an ice-cream bar because of the white bar on its head). The other talking one at 0:20 on the right is Little Snowflake (see the white spot on its forehead?). They were about 11 weeks old when the video was recorded. The big gander with a white bar on his head, leading a bunch of other geese at 0:27, is their dad, Mr. Ice-Cream. The Ice-Cream family appear larger than most other geese there. Plus, some of them have white bars on their foreheads. So, I think they are of the *giant canada goose* subspecies. The family are also more curious about humans than a lot of other geese there, who hissed when I walked by.

The family getting out of the water at 3:18 are the Fries, another family that are friendly to me. They don't hiss at me. They are less vocal than the Ice-Creams but there is still a little bit of chirping coming from the goslings. The goslings were about 7-8 weeks old.

Update June 2015: Little Ice-Cream and Snowflake both returned to the same pond this year. Sadly, they have grown up and lost their chirping voice. Now they can only honk like adult geese. Most of Little Ice-Cream's white bar had disappeared; only a pair of white eyebrows are left. They still have their curious nature. Little Ice-Cream would come close and nip my shoes and jeans. Mr. and Mrs. Ice-Cream successfully hatched some goslings in late April but lost them to gang broods. Since then, Mr. Ice-Cream has been hanging out with his children from the previous year. Mr. and Mrs. Fries also came back and are now raising a gang brood. One of the Little Fries disappeared last August but the other two returned as well.
