Footage of Spanish incursion at Sandy Bay filmed from Both Worlds
This amateur footage was taken during an incident at 3am on Sunday 9 August 2015. According to the Royal Gibraltar Police, a Spanish Customs boat and helicopter were chasing a Spanish RHIB, that hit the submerged central groyne at Sandy Bay. The Customs boat deployed what's known as a "baby" RHIB that came ashore at the beach to try and apprehend the three occupants of the RHIB. While this was happening, the helicopter hovered just a couple of metres above the beach leading eyewitnesses to think it was going to land. The RGP says local customs officers were already in the area and they managed to arrest two of the three occupants. The third escaped. The two were later released on bail. The SVA officers attempted to tow the RHIB out to sea, but RGP officers who by then were on the scene cut the tow rope and prevented this from happening. This and two other incursions, one before and one after, have been reported to the Convent.
