Metsoc Minutes February 2019- Metallurgy & Materials Society of CIM

This is the MetSoc minutes, all your news at the Metallurgy & Materials Society of CIM for the month of February.

I would like to begin by reminder students and professors that the Call for Student Scholarship awards was extended to February 8th. We have a Doctoral scholarship and Masters scholarship. Neither requires the student to be a CIM member, although we hope with time that as a student you will see the value and become a member! Find out details at metsoc.org

More news for students and professionals in the materials section, our CMSC conference Canadian Materials Science Conference is opening is Call for abstract this month. The conference takes place at University of British Columbia and for all students, we have a budget to help fund your travel. Please submit an abstract and apply for a travel fund! This will also open at the same time. Follow us on the conference site at cmscconf.org

The COM Copper conference has announced their preliminary list of Plenary speakers. We have invited experts and executives from across the globe. The list so far includes:

• Steven Higgins Vice President Sales and Marketing, Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold
• Donald R. Lindsay President and CEO, Teck Resources Limited

So mark your calendar,save the week of August 18-21 for the COM Copper conference!

At the heart of MetSoc, our nominations committee on the board is searching for the next VP appointments to the Board. As per article 10 of the bylaws any ten members Any ten members of the Society may submit additional nominations to the Nominating Committee. You must do so before May 2019 and follow the criteria set forth. Please communicate with me further for more information.
