Spring time on the 'GCR' | Reunification Open Weekend 5th April 2025

We are being graced with some glorious spring sunshine at the moment, and I could not pass up on an excuse to get outside with the camera. Having not visited for a while, the decision was made to pop into the Great Central Railway.

The Great Central Railway at Loughborough and the Great Central Railway North at Ruddington, are two separate preserved railways. The lines have plans, which are already in motion, to connect up and expand their restoration of the former Great Central Mainline. To raise awareness of the plans, they held a 'Reunification Open Weekend' where you explore the line by trains and bus giving a taste of the what's to come.

As such, the GCR South had an intensive timetable in place with multiple passenger, freight and DMU services across the line. 3 steam, 2 diesel and a Bubble Car provided the motive power on this gorgeous weekend.

As mentioned, the weather was top tier over this weekend, so no problem finding the good light to catch all the movements over just a few hours Saturday morning. Hope you enjoy!
