Phantom 3 and Phantom 4 RC Flight Mode Switch Explained for 3rd Party Apps

I've received a lot of questions about how to cancel an autonomous mission with DroneBlocks, DronePan and other 3rd party apps for DJI aircraft. I wanted to explain how this works with the Phantom 3 and Phantom 4 RC flight mode switch. Both behave a bit differently and I feel it's important to understand how each one works.
