MORE ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The original pleated blinds and window valances have been removed and it’s time to install some new ones. We decided on day/night roller shades from RecPro.com for the new window coverings, but needed valances to compliment the new look.

The materials needed for the valances:
(1) Fabric
(2) Batting material to give the valance a little “poof”
(3) 4x8 ft sheet of ½” plywood
I cut the plywood large enough to cover the roller shade hardware adding a little extra (½”) to the inside dimension. Then I put the partial box valance together with wood and nails.
To finish the valance, I wrapped the outer wood valance with batting (except for the top) and stapled the edges down. I then wrapped it with the fabric, folding in the edges and stapled it down. For a finishing touch I used spray adhesive to secure the ends of the fabric inside and on the top to prevent fraying.
CUSTOMIZING THE SHADES: To keep the bottom shade from moving while driving, I installed drilled a small hole in the bottom shade crossbar and inserted a small magnet. I added a second magnet in the wall just below the window frame. The magnets were glued in with Gorilla glue. This mod worked very well.
