Typhoon Goni swept across the Philippines on November 1, 2020. At least 10 people were killed by the year’s strongest tropical storm. Goni was generating winds of up to 225km/h (140mph) as it made landfall on Catanduanes Island in the eastern Philippines, making it the “strongest landfalling tropical cyclone” in Philippine history, meteorologists said. The storm weakened with maximum wind speeds falling to 127km/h (135mph) as it passed Luzon and south of the capital Manila before heading back out into the South China Sea. Another typhoon, Atsani, is expected to hit the archipelago in the coming days.
