Mike Mangini - SHURE KSM44

This Video highlights my use of two KSM44A condenser mics set to "figure 8." The close mics already capture the Left/Right Stereo image. I was looking to add "slam" and thickness to the sound of this kit. The front mic was placed to capture the sound from the front of the kit from a good distance away, as well as the "slam" off the back wall. The mic behind the kit is positioned very low to the ground to capture the reflection of the drums that bounce off of the cymbals, as well as all the "air" from the space way behind the kit. Combining them produces a truly large sound with real "slam" that cannot be captured by close mic'ing, or from "overhead" mics, which makes the cymbals too loud.
