The Painful Death Of ‘King Henry IX’ - The Boy Who Could Have Been King

One thing that plagued the reign of the notorious Tudor King Henry VIII was his search and quest for a male heir. This saw him go through many different wives, and Henry VIII is remembered for having 6 wives, two of which were beheaded inside the walls of the Tower of London. The fact Henry wanted a son greatly saw Henry VIII break from Rome, plunging England into religious turmoil, and he did get what he wanted when Jane Seymour his third wife gave birth to a boy, named Edward. But Henry VIII did have another son before this, but the boy named Henry Fitzroy was regarded as illegitimate. Most Kings who had illegitimate children before the Tudor Period tended to outcast these offspring, and because of this they were seemingly forgotten in History. But Henry VIII had different ideas and it could be considered that he was preparing for Henry Fitzroy his illegitimate son to become his own successor, and he would have become Henry IX. There has been no King of England named after the infamous Henry, but it’s believed that Henry’s illegitimate son could have become the King in his own right.
