Global Express Challenging Landing in ASPEN, CO | COLD WX & MOUNTAIN OPS | 4K Video

Welcome back to the Global Life!

Back into Aspen, but this time taking a bit more time to look at how to treat and operate the Global Express in cold weather operations as well as in and out of mountainous terrain.

Bombardier has created an extensive "checklist" of items that must be attended to on the aircraft if it is to be left outside in cold temperatures for an extended period of time. As pilots it is our responsibilities to care for the plane and ensure it functions properly even after being cold soaked.

Taking off from within the Americain Rockies, we proceed on a short hop to Aspen, CO. This airport never ceases to amaze me, as the complexity and skill level required to operate in and out of it remains one of the highest I've yet to see.

You'll notice during the video that I disconnected the Autothrottles. The reason being that while on approach ,even fully configured, the need to modulate spoilers remains to maintain Vref unti landing. The Autothrottles are designed to protect the airplane when the spoilers are out, never going slower than 30kts above stall speed. In order to achieve REF while using the spoilers, therefore, it is imperative to remain on manual throttles.

The use of the HUD (Heads up Display) is great in this instance as the PF never has to look down to monitor speeds.
