Powerful Dogs Learn to Coexist at the Dog Park

Today there was a 5 month old American Bulldog, an XL PitBull, a 2 year old American Bulldog, a 8 moth old Rottweiler and at the dog park (among others). They got along pretty well. At one point the 2 year old American Bulldog put his mouth on Winston (the grey Mastiff/Pit mix) and Winston handled it nicely and calmly. Then the 5 month old American Bulldog puppy tested the boundaries of the 8 month old Rott and we had to teach him that is not permissible. Based on my experience the young bucks (male or female between 5 months and 10 months) tend to be more unpredictable and aggressive than full grown dogs. They are sort of like a human teenager. They tend to investigate the boundaries of other dogs. The 2 year old Mastiff, on the other hand, was new to the park and exhibited signs of aggression, therefore we kept him on a leash for the most part. When he put his mouth on (the grey dog) Winston, the American Bulldog's owner quickly controlled him and deescalated the situation.

*This video exists in order to enlighten, educate and entertain dog owners who may want to take their dogs to the dog park. Taking your dog to the dog park is great, however, you should be aware of the potential risks involved, so be careful and pay attention to warning signs.

A good day at the dog park can turn into a very bad day in a split second.*
