Pentatonix - "Mad World" (Drum Interpretation)
FOOTNOTES:
1 - I've heard this song before in what seems like every variation other than the original which I still don't know who has the original on this. At any rate, this as a drum interpretation was part of my Pentatonix kick and it also seemed like a challenge to play to. It's a subtle song. A slow song. But also a very emotional song.
2 - My snare head was feeling and sounding a little loose.
3 - With a lot of drum interpretations, I spend a considerable amount of time in the writing process to make sure I'm not a) taking away from the song too unnecessarily (by their very nature I'm already doing that) and b) missing the point of the piece. With this one, however, it being such an emotional song, I did my best to play inspired by the emotions I felt at each passage versus what was musically "best".
4 - If you've watched any of my videos and ready any of my footnotes you know I'm not super keen on drum solos, so don't consider this a "solo" but rather the emotional output of a "mad world". Seriously. I'm not trying to be cheesy.
5 - The only overtly intentional part I wrote: I intentionally went low to high on the accent cymbals and bells to signify a sort of upshot from the madness. Like looking on the brightside after struggle.
Thanks for watching and reading!
