How I Learned Arabic (in Arabic) - spoken Iraqi dialect

In spoken Iraqi Arabic, I tell the story of how I learned Arabic from Iraqi cooks and priests in a Chaldean Catholic seminary in Northern Iraq from 2007 - 2009. I was working as a relief worker for Mennonite Central Committee mcc.org in Erbil, managing humanitarian projects all over Iraq and teaching English classes for the seminary students.

Before learning Arabic in Iraq I also learned Spanish in Latin America and the United States. I believe anyone can learn any language if they do three things:

1. Believe you can.
2. Make the daily decision to learn.
3. Seek immersion but also study the language

One family I learned Arabic from in Iraq became close like my own family. Now I have been helping them find their way in America since they were resettled here as refugees in 2012. I documented their life over several years:

Watch this amazing Iraqi family build a new life in the US in my digital docu-series, FATE WE MAKE:
