America is not Easy (in Arabic) - Tips on work life for immigrants from the Middle East
Before they come to the United States, some refugees and immigrants from the Middle East may have an idea about America that is different than the reality. When it comes to financial success, the system and culture of working in America may come as a shock to some newcomers. The ideal behind the American Dream is that you are free to work hard and become wealthy, and no one will stop you. But that also means no one will prevent you from failing, either.
In American culture, each person is responsible for herself, whether she succeeds with money or loses everything. And even if you understand the American system and work hard every day to get ahead, it's still a very long and difficult road to a comfortable life, and many people don't make it.
I am a bridge-builder who learned Arabic language and culture as a relief worker in Iraq from 2007-2009. I have eye-witness experience with the difficulties refugees and immigrants from the Middle East experience when they come to America. I documented the journey of one special family in a short web series called FATE WE MAKE found on this YouTube channel.

Speaking in Arabic and addressing new or future immigrants directly, I explain one important difference between Eastern and Western cultures that I have seen families struggle with when they resettle in the United States. American values and attitudes toward work, wealth and liberty can be difficult to understand at first. Without an awareness of the changes in thinking and working that immigrants will face in order to succeed here, many families arrive in the famous Land of Opportunity only to realize they are in over their heads.
I love all people and want everyone to be able to live the life they wish for. I hope this video can be helpful for Arabic-speaking families who might be considering resettling in America.
