This video was recorded by Daniel Bögre Udell in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the USA. Yshyr, also known as Ishír and Chamacoco, is a Zamucoan language spoken in Paraguay. The language's native name Yshyr/Ishír is short for 'Ishir(o) ahwoso', literally meaning 'the words, the language of the Chamacoco people'. There are approximately 1,500-2,000 speakers scattered across several villages and towns in the northeastern part of the country, along the border with Brazil. The Ishir speak their language amongst themselves but face external pressures to rely on Guarani and Spanish in interactions outside the community.
