Abandoned, redundant, disused - call them what you like - but these churches have been saved (reprieved?) by organisations ranging from the Churches Conservation Trust to locals.
In Part 1 the churches of North Yorkshire are looked at: Upleatham, Robin Hood's Bay, Whorlton, Stanwick, Wensley, Coverham, Vale of the Lune, Pateley Bridge, Studley Royal, Newby Hall, Allerton Mauleverer, Stainburn, Lead (Battle of Towton), Bishopthorpe, York, Wintringham, East Heslerton and Wharram Percy.
