Mk7 Golf IS38 Swap *COMPLETE Turbo INSTALL* MQB Platform!
We show you how to do a mk7 golf is38 swap. We remove the original IS20 from my Mk7 Golf GTI and install an IS38 off of an Audi S3 (Also in the Golf R). An IS38 install takes the Mk7 GTI from 280hp (tuned) and 350ft-lbs to 360hp and 360ft-lbs with my United Motorsport ECU/TCU tune! Installing an IS38 turbo on the Mk7 GTI is a really common thing to do. The IS20 has really awesome spool up and response, but it falls off pretty quickly past 5500rpm. The IS38 appears to have almost no change in spool up, but is happy revving up to the 6300rpm.
You will need a lot of tools for an IS38 swap installation! It is incredibly important to prime the IS38 turbo CHRA before starting the car for the first time. I recommend pulling the MK7 GTI fuel pump control module fuse in the engine bay and letting the car idle out of gas. This will ensure you can prime the turbo, connect everything back up and allow the car to crank freely, building oil pressure, before having your first start.
It is also incredibly important to have the car properly flashed to the IS38 tune before driving the car. I had my car flashed for the IS38 before I did the swap and babied the car home.
