Who is Responsible for Responsible AI? with Shannon Vallor
Shannon Valor, Baillie Gifford Professor in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence, University of Edinburgh gave an incredibly important talk at Turing Fest 2023.
This talk confronts the urgent challenge of building a responsible AI ecosystem in the UK. Shannon will explain why in the light of recent AI advances a responsible AI ecosystem is essential for UK innovation, and she maps the public, corporate and engineering ‘ecologies’ that must share new responsibilities in that ecosystem. Finally, Shannon talks about the obstacles in the way of a healthy, mature and sustainable AI ecosystem in the UK, and how bridging divides across the Responsible AI landscape can help us overcome them.💪
ℹ️Professor Vallor’s research maps the ethical challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies, and she advises the government and industry on the #ethical design and use of #AI.
She is Co-Director of the UKRI’s Enabling a Responsible AI Ecosystem research programme, author of Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting and editor of the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Technology. She is the recipient of multiple awards for teaching, scholarship and public engagement, including the 2015 World Technology Award in Ethics. She is also a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute.
We were delighted to welcome her to Turing Fest 2023 for this frank and no-nonsense presentation which posed the question: Who is Responsible for Responsible AI?.
