Thattai Recipe in Air Fryer | Indian Rice Crackers | Crispy Snack Thattai Murukku/Chekkalu/Nippattu
Thattai is a traditional Indian snack made using rice flour, dal flours and spices. It’s specially made during festivals like Krishna jayanthi and Diwali. Make it in air fryer and enjoy it for a yummy tea time snack.
Ingredients
Rice flour - 1 cup
Urad dal - 1 tbsp
Roasted Chana - 1 tbsp
Red Chili powder - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Hing(Asafoetida) - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 tbsp chopped
Soaked Chana dal - 1 tbsp
Butter - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Soak a tbsp of Chana dal for half an hour.
2. Add a tbsp of Urad dal to a pan, fry till it turns golden brown and transfer it to a blender.
3. Add a tbsp of roasted Chana to it and blend it to a fine powder. If you don’t have roasted Chana, you can add besan.
4. Add a cup of Rice flour to a bowl, urad dal and Chana mixture, red chili powder, Hing, curry leaves, soaked Chana dal, salt and mix well.
5. Add a tbsp of butter and crumble the mixture.
6. Add water gradually as required and knead it into a soft dough like chapati dough consistency.
7. Take a large ball sized dough and place it on the parchment paper. Cover the rest of the dough with wet cloth. Don’t let it dry.
8. Place another parchment paper on it and roll it flat. It shouldn’t be too thick or too thin.
9. Cut it into round circles using a round shaped bottle cap or cookie cutter.
10. Preheat the air fryer at 350°F or 180°C for 2-3 minutes.
11. Place the thattai in the air fryer basket and apply butter or oil on top. It helps in giving the thattai nice golden brown color.
12. Air fry at 350°F or 180°C for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, flip the thattai and apply butter on the other side and air fry for another five minutes.
13. Crunchy thattai will be ready in 10 minutes. Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. Thattai will become more crispy once it cools down.
14. Store it in air tight container upto a week.
