The Watch Nobody Wanted To Repair: Restoration of Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk I
Today we are restoring a beautiful and rare watch, the Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk I, ref. no. 7100. It was created in the 1940s and marketed for active service, due to it being very robust, as well as water- and shockproof.
This watch has a self-winding gold-plated movement, which is equipped with 21 jewels. It has a uni-directional sapphire bezel and a cream dial with shaped luminous markers.
The watch belongs to a dear friend of mine. The previous owner made a restoration attempt, that led to more damage; after that, nobody else wanted to repair this watch. At first, even I refused, due to the movement being very sophisticated and replacement parts being rare and costly. It took a lot of convincing, but I finally agreed to take this project on.
