Most runners do not have complaints of locking, instability, or loss of motion. Therefore many can remain active and possibly continue to run without surgery.
Gentle resistive exercise has not been shown to worsen knee arthritis or complex meniscus tears. Many runners are able to get back to running within a few months after their pain settles down.
