Vanilla Ice Cream: one of the biggest car myths

As the story goes, this man's Pontiac would not start every time he bought vanilla ice cream, yet ran fine on every other flavor.

It became one of the most repeated car stories around, well known enough that Snopes and folklorists tracked it down. For years people believed the flavor itself was the problem.

The real cause was vapor lock. Vanilla sat up front for a quick grab, so the hot engine never had time to cool between stops, and the fuel boiled in the line on the restart. The flavor never mattered.

A bonus for the day: Good Humor built the first fleet of motorized ice cream trucks back in 1920.
