James Redford Tribute from San Francisco Chapter of The Links Inc

The San Francisco Chapter of The Links, Incorporated (SF Links) is deeply saddened by the passing of Jamie Redford, who was among our most giving, compassionate, considerate, and benevolent partners. His commitment to working with our Chapter to help advance awareness and understanding of the link between toxic stress in children and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), was profound; and how the resulting triggers can alter brain development in children, and lead to lifelong health impacts such as heart disease, cancer, substance abuse, and depression.

Jamie, a noted and award-winning documentary filmmaker and activist, focused mainly on the intersection of the environment and health. Every film he made was with the purpose of increasing awareness and motivating action toward cultivating meaningful change and improving the lives of people.

Jamie’s film, “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and The Science of Hope” featured the critical work of Dr. Nadine Burke Harris—California’s first Surgeon General, Founder and CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness, and Founding Physician of the Bayview Health Center in San Francisco—and friend of the SF Links.

Together, we worked to present a series of award-winning community screenings and panel discussions, driving impact and delivering options for change. Whenever called upon Jamie was always present and spoke passionately about his work and commitment to this transformational program. He spoke with high regard for the SF Links and we held him in the highest esteem!

Jamie was humble and sincere, and he never boasted about being the son of the famous actor, Robert Redford. His passion was to serve, and to use the power of positive stories to effect impactful change. The heart and soul of this incredible man touched many, and the members of the San Francisco Chapter of The Links are blessed to have shared creativity, time and space with such a kind and giving spirit.

On behalf of the San Francisco Chapter of Links, Inc., we extend our deepest condolences to Jamie Redford’s loving wife, children, and family members. We thank you for sharing Jamie with us, and for supporting all that he did to help us, and help others through his gift of documentary filmmaking. Our love and prayers are with you.
