100 % Whole Wheat Bread - Delicious & Nutritious and easy to make!
Homemade 100% Whole Wheat Bread is an all time favorite with my family and friends. I hope you give this easy-to-follow recipe a try :)
100% Whole Wheat Bread
* 4 - 5 1/2 Cups of Whole Wheat Flour OR you can use a combination of both whole wheat and all purpose flour.
* 2 Tablespoons of Quick Rise Instant Yeast
* 1/4 Cup of Coconut Oil OR substitute for the same amount of butter or oil of your choice
* 1/4 Cup of Honey OR substitute with white sugar, brown sugar, molasses
* 2 Cups of Hot Water (100 F)
* 1 teaspoon of Salt
Directions:
Using Paddle Attachment; Start with 4 Cups of Flour in your bowl. Add Yeast and stir to combine. Next add the oil and honey and mix to combine. Add the hot water and mix. Continue adding flour gradually as you mix your dough. Then add the salt.
Scrape sides of bowl. Remove the paddle attachment and add the dough hook.
Allow your dough to continue in the mixer with the dough hook for ten minutes, continue to add small amounts of flour as required to keep the dough from sticking.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured work surface. Knead to shape it into a nice round ball. Rub a small amount coconut oil over the dough to prevent it from drying out as it proofs. Cover with a clean dry towel and let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
Divide the dough in half and shape into loaves. Place each loaf in a greased 8 inch loaf pan. lightly grease top of loaf with coconut oil. Cover with a dry clean towel and allow to rise until double, in a warm, draft free area.
Once the bread has doubled in size, remove the towel, Place bread on the center rack of a pre-heated 400 F oven. Bake for 30 minutes. The crust will be golden brown and if you tap the bottom of your loaf, it will have a hollow sound.
Remove from pans and place on a cooling rack.
(I usually melt a little butter over the top of my finished loaves because I like a soft crust. This is of course entirely up to you and what you prefer.)
