Coffee is the Backbone of Ethiopian Culture — Even in Brooklyn

On this episode of Cooking in America, host Pelin Keskin visits Bunna Cafe, an Ethiopian coffee house and restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn named after the traditional coffee ceremony practiced inside. As the driving force behind Ethiopia’s economy as well as a pillar of its culture, coffee plays an integral role in the lives of Ethiopian immigrants in America; Bunna Cafe owner Kedega Srage values the practice as a way to connect with her native country and to the memories she has of her childhood overseas.
