Making Julien Solomita's Aries Kitchen Knife.
We’re making a kitchen knife for Julien Solomita, from (almost) start to finish and I talk about the overall process and show some tips/techniques. This is a fun project because I’m always shooting for the “ideal” kitchen knife. There’s no such thing as a perfect chef's knife but you can always shoot for an amazing one that will suit the user.
This is the most serious and straight forward video we’ve done so far; we can’t have ALL of them be full of shenanigans. We're still learning a lot as far as doing the filming and editing, but I think we're making pretty good progress. The end result is a stainless, 8” chef’s knife, with an African Blackwood handle. It’s a minimalist design overall, focusing mainly on the build, the lines, and the function.
If you’ve seen Jenna’s and Julien’s stuff you’ll know what Aries Kitchen is. I was pretty excited to put that little surprise with the signature, but I also didn’t want to overstep any bounds and just put it there without any permission. Thank you Debbie Machine for giving the ok on that.

Thank you to my assistant Sam for helping me with the video and editing this one (and sanding the handle).
The grinding technique that I talked about in the video from Mastersmith Tim Hancock, he left a legacy. He passed away last week fighting Parkinson's Disease for a long, long time. I met him at the 2014 TW Hammer-In and ever since then he has been incredibly supportive and helpful with my work. Even though I never spent that much time with him, the moments were valuable. This is a man who has touched so many lives in such heavy ways. The best of the best respect him to the greatest degree. Rest in peace Tim. Thank you.

Kitchen knives are our bread and butter, but we like making videos. I enjoy learning about the the storytelling and being honest about the craft and the process. Each video takes a considerable amount of time for both me and Sam, and I don't intend on ever having ads.
