Guilty of being Italian in Britain - the sinking of the Arandora Star
Italians living in Britain in 1940 were interned (put into prison camps) on Churchill’s orders as enemy aliens even though many had lived for decades in Britain. Some were put on a ship to be evacuated which was sunk by a German u-boat and hundreds died. Italians were even blamed for not saving themselves.
